Vagator Beach

Majorda Beach
This beach lies 5 km from the Colva Beach. The soft sands and aquamarine waters of Majorda Beach lure tourists from all over the world.
Varca Beach
It comes 2 km south of Benaulim Beach. Varca beach is a lush tropical paradise with an expanse of golden sands for a distance of 27 kilometres and it is located 45 minutes from the Dabolim airport of Goa.
Velsao Beach
This beach is getting popular among the tourists. Velsao Beach is situated on the southern coast of the state, and at a distance of 25 km from the capital city Panaji.
The main tourist attraction of Goa is churches. The architecture of the churches is famous for their interesting blend of two or more forms of architecture. Old Goa is the world heritage site because of the churches here. This baroque architecture or the ornated altars churches were made in the time of Portuguese rule. The churches, monasteries, convents and temples remind who of the administrative capital of the Portuguese who nearly lost the place to the British and the Dutch.
Basilica of Bom Jesus
The church located in the old Goa which was the capital city during the Portugal rule. The Basilica of Bom Jesus is famous for the preserved mortal remains of St.Francis Xavier kept in a silver casket. The story behind the church is like this, St. Francis came to Goa in 1541 with a task to preach Christianity. After his death on the coast of China, he was brought to India but his body did not decompose. Even the inner organs were intact. This is indeed a miracle particularly when no embalming of the body had been done. The body is kept in a silver casket which is open to public once in ten years. Altars of the Basilica is richly gilded bur rest of interior is very simple. The walls covering surrounding the casket depict the life and journey of St. Francis Xavier. A modern art gallery is attached with the Basilica.
Mary Immaculate Conception
The marvel construction of this church attracts so many people to this church. This church is supposed to be one of the earliest churches to be constructed in Goa.
Reis Magos Church
This stunningly beautiful white monument church is visible from across the River Mandovi. It is one of the most famous landmarks of the Reis Magos village located in Goa.
Se Cathedral
It is nine kilometre from the capital city of Panaji and is in the old Goa. Se Cathedral is the largest church in Asia and was originally built of mud, stones and straw. The Cathedral is a fine example of the Tuscan-Doric style of architecture from the exterior and the Mosaic-Corinthian style from the interior. The church is dedicated to St.Catherine of Alexandria. Se Cathedral was built in the 16th century under the Portuguese rule in India. This Cathedral has five bells of which one is the famous Golden bell, the biggest in Goa and one of the best in the world.
Church of Lady of Rosary
This church is one of the finest examples of Maueline style architecture of the early Portuguese. It is on the top of the Holy Hill, the site believed to be the very place where Alfonso de Albuquerque led his troops to victory in 1510 AD.
St Augustine Church
It is the most spectacular monuments in Goa and is a very popular tourist attraction in Goa. Combined effort of 12 Augustinians makes it real in 1602
St.Cajetan Church
This church is near to Se Cathedral church in Old Goa. The exquisite architecture of the church attracts numerous visitors towards it. The church is designed like the Basilica of St.Peter located in Rome.
The Church St.Francis of Assissi
This church is located in Old Goa at a distance of some 10 kilometres from the capital city, Panaji. The church of St. Francis of Assissi of Goa was build during 1517-1521 AD and is in the same complex in which Se Cathedral is located. The church is built in Tuscan style from the exterior and the Mosaic-Corinthian style from the interior. Archaeological Survey of India took over the church and converted it into a museum in 1964. The church museum showcases the antiquities, artefacts, painting and pieces of Hindu temple sculpture from Goa.
St.Paul Church
It is located on the route of Ponda from Old Goa. Local transport is always available to reach the church. The priests namely Diogo de Borba and Miguel Vaz made the effort for the church become true.
Anjuna attracts all kinds of tourists and thus has a range of accommodation option that caters to all kinds of travellers. There are options of staying in luxury hotels, as well as a home stay. The prices of the accommodation not only depend upon the type of accommodation but also the season. During the peak season, that is during the Christmas and New Year’s time the prices shoot up, but during the rest of the year the prices are usually reasonable. There are also a number of budget hotels and home stays and a stay in these can cost anywhere between Rs 200 to 1000.
Anjuna might not have the exotic monuments or historical places, but it’s a place to simply unwind and forget about everything else. A small village where everything moves at its own pace. Just laze around the beach, take a stroll along the lanes and the stalls, sit in a café or a beach shack and enjoy the party scene.
The biggest attraction in Anjuna is the luxury to laze around the beach during the day and the parties and nights. The beach is towards the south of the village and can get crowded. Towards the northern side of the village is the flea market ground and towards the south is a rocky headland and thus it is better to swim towards the south end of the beach.
Anjuna is very famous for its flea markets, which takes place on Wednesday and lasts from morning till dawn. One can find anything from Kashmiri handicrafts, to Goan souvenirs, from clothes and jewellery to music cds. The Wednesday Flea market usually takes place on the main road that leads to the beach. This flea market attracts tourists from all over north Goa and can get very crowded, parking fee is charged outside the market on Wednesdays. One can bargain with the shop keepers in this market. The best part about this flea market is that if one wants to open a shop there then one can do so at the cost of approximately Rs 100.
The Saturday Night Bazaars are also equally popular in North Goa. There are several Saturday Night Bazaars organized in north Goa, the more popular of them being Ingos and Mackies Saturday Night Bazaar. These bazaars have many stores run by Goans, Indians from other states, Tibetans and some foreigners. They have many food stalls, with all kinds of street food. There are many stores selling authentic Goan, Chinese, Tibetan, Indian and fast food. Some of these bazaars also have live music performed by the local bands. There are also stalls selling beers in this bazaar.
Shore Bar, situated in the centre of the beach playing funky numbers is one of the major nightlife centres in Anjuna. The place closes around midnight and one can always hop to other places, which are open after midnight. Most nightclubs and bars in Anjuna play trance mixes. Anjuna also happens to be one of the major all night party places during the New Year’s Eve. In Vagator beach, The Aclove is a great nightclub to visit. Temptations and Red Cab Inns are also very good options. The best parties in Anjuna are however the full moon parties or the black moon parties that happen here occasionally. Paradiso is one of the most popular nightclubs in Goa and it is located in Anjuna. Nine Bar and Hilltop are some of the places where open-air parties are held, these two places are near Vagator. There are also a number of nightclubs and bars in and around Baga and Calangute and one can reach to any one of these places via taxis or hired motorbikes.
There are number of roadside stalls and beach stalls all over Anjuna selling all kind of stuffs. There are also a number of restaurants and cafes across Anjuna. The most popular among them being Curlie’s, which is a beach shack. It is located in close proximity to the flea market and is usually crowded with all types of tourist. Most of the restaurants, both beach shacks and the ones in the village are semi open air and simple restaurants, serving Goan and Western cuisine. Almost all the restaurants serve liquor and play good funky music in the background. Some restaurants have televisions and the Sea Queen restaurant in Anjuna also houses a big screen, which plays movies. Apart from these, there are many other restaurants specializing in different types of cuisine, such as the Basilico, which specializes in Italian food and Biryani Palace for Indian tandoori cuisine. For breakfast the German bakery is very good option. There is not much sight seeing to do in Anjuna but one can laze around the beaches and several restaurants and cafes, or simply stroll around the village take a peak at some of its beach stalls or charming book stores, such as the Manali Book Shop
By Air To Anjuna Goa: The nearest airport is located in Vasco De Gama, known as Dabolim airport. Taxis are easily available from the airport to Anjuna.
By Rail To Anjuna Goa: The nearest railway station to Anjuna is located eight kilometres from Anjuna in Mapusa. From there the cheapest way to get to Anjuna is by bus. However there are taxis easily available and even auto rickshaws.
By Road To Anjuna Goa: Goa is well connected by road to cities like Bangalore, Mangalore, Pune and Mumbai. There are government operated, as well as private operated buses available to choose from. The buses also offer a range of option, from semi-deluxe to luxury buses. There are bus services to Panjim and Kadamba, one can get down in any one of the destination and either take local bus or hire taxis. A very unique way of travelling in Goa is also by motorcycle taxis, which can be used for short trips.
In north Goa, one can either explore the beaches on foot or use auto rickshaws and taxis to explore the lanes. The best way to get around is of course on hired motorbikes and scooters. The motorbikes and scooters are easily available on rent, most hotels and restaurants can arrange for one. They cost anywhere between Rs 150 to Rs 400 per day. You will need to have a valid license to hire the bikes. Bicycles are also available for rent. If you are hiring bikes then fill your petrol to the fullest because the petrol pumps are located far away from each other. From Anjuna the nearest petrol pump is near Vagator.
Anjuna is a small village in north Goa, but is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Goa. This small beach village was a major destination for the hippies during the sixties and the seventies. It is now a very popular tourist destination in Goa, famous for its parties and flea markets. The tourist season in Anjuna starts during the end of October and it reaches its peak during the Christmas and New Year time. One can find tourists from all over India and abroad during these times, the hotels are booked much in advance during the peak season and the prices are also higher. One can find all kind of travellers in Anjuna, from backpackers and artists to monks and party freaks.
